The Lazarus Laws

Minimum Legislation For Countries To Be Lazarus Laws Compliant

  1. No import/export fees or taxes may be applied to      donated food products.
  2. Border and Environmental laws must allow for the      importation of donated canned food, frozen food and cooked food since      these do not create border protection or environment concerns.
  3. Liability protection (similar to the Good Samaritan      Laws) for individuals and companies who in good faith, donate food,      products, services and transportation in the complete chain from donating      food to final consumption.
  4. Best practice for labelling. Implementing a global      standardized policy for labeling because in some countries it becomes      illegal to donate food products beyond the “best before date” while it is      still good and safe.
  5. A second tier group of additional compliance standards      that would allow countries to boast that they are “Lazarus Laws Gold      Standard compliant. “ These would include tax deductions for donated food      or tax Incentives, donation requirements and may include food waste      penalties.
