Lazarus Council

Shockingly, more food is wasted globally than is needed to solve world hunger! This is largely due to laws and labeling that inadvertently block food donations and the lack of standardized legislation to protect food donors from being sued.

The Lazarus Council Organization seeks to change that with a gold standard list of common sense “Lazarus Laws” and minimum compliance standards for all countries to adopt and the United Nations to help enact and reward compliance.

Similar to the Good Samaritan laws, the Lazarus Laws would protect donors who lend assistance in good faith with food donations and other services from liability.
In addition, the minimum standards would prohibit import fees and allow flow-through border entry of donated food products such as canned goods, frozen food and cooked food that don’t pose environmental entry concerns.
For example, our volunteer Stephanie Sweet reports that on the tiny island of Cozumel, cruise ship companies were stopped from donating uncooked frozen imported foods to her charitable effort to feed children.

The Lazarus parable - about a poor man desiring only the scraps from a rich man’s table - calls to light the plight of starving people around the world. In their hardship , they can’t possibly organize the Lazarus Council effort to raise donations, hire international lawyers and lobbyists and ultimately create standardized laws across borders to open corporate food donation pipelines to flow continuously.
